What costs credits
An AI estimate, a minute on the AI receptionist, a text message, a gigabyte of job photos — every one of those costs real money each time it happens, so we charge for it each time it happens instead of burying it in a seat fee. That is what a credit is. Here is the whole list, and what each one costs in dollars. Two of them also need a plan before credits will run them — they are tagged below.

Dollar figures are the floor: a credit at the lowest rate we quote, which takes a Custom plan. On a published plan a credit costs more — 2.5¢ on Organization, 3.3¢ on Growth — so read these as the best the meter ever gets, not as your bill. A ~ means the charge is worked out from the actual job rather than fixed: an AI estimate on a short job costs less than one carrying a pile of photos and a long materials list.
Setting up costs the most credits you will ever spend in one go — building the website, standing up the receptionist, running your first few AI estimates. So every new account starts on the 4,800-credit plan for 14 days at no charge. Spend them finding out whether an AI estimate is worth the hours it saves you, rather than taking our word for it.
After that you drop to Starter and keep 250 credits a month, free forever. That alone covers any one of these:

GPS sits on Scale Pro because that is where the credits are. One tech on the map runs about 880 credits a month, so Growth would cover 1 truck and little else. We would rather put it on the plan that can actually carry your crew than sell you something that burns out in a fortnight.

It is actually free, and the catch you are looking for does not exist. Everything involved in running the work — unlimited users, customers, jobs, tasks, scheduling, estimates you write yourself, invoices, the pricebook, the mobile app, inventory and reports — costs zero credits on every plan, including the free one, forever. There is no cap on how many of them you create and no charge per person on your team. No card is needed to start. What is metered is the handful of features that cost us real money every time they run: AI, text messages, phone minutes, GPS and storage. Those are charged by the use, at a rate we publish, and the free plan includes 250 credits a month to spend on them. Two of those metered features also need a plan: the AI Receptionist from Growth, and GPS on the map from Scale Pro. We would rather tell you that here than let you find it later.

Building MAX Ads campaigns costs no credits — running one costs the daily ad budget you set. The AI Estimator is the one rate that moves: it is charged on the actual job, so a short estimate costs less than 60 and one carrying a lot of photos and a long materials list costs more. Everything else on that list is fixed. Everything else costs nothing. Email automations are unmetered. Estimates you write yourself are unmetered. Those rates are identical on every plan, including the free one. GPS is on Scale Pro rather than Growth for a practical reason. One tech on the map runs about 880 credits a month, so Growth's 1,500 would cover one truck and leave almost nothing for anything else. Scale Pro's 4,800 can carry a crew. Growth is $49 for 1,500 credits, Scale Pro is $149 for 4,800, Organization is $299 for 12,000. Divided out, that is 3.3¢, 3.1¢ and 2.5¢ per credit. Pick a plan on how much you expect to use, not on what you want access to.
No. Users are unlimited on every plan, including the free one. Add every technician, every subcontractor and everyone in the office at no charge. You move between plans on usage — how many credits you get through in a month — never on headcount.
It depends where they came from. Plan credits, the allowance included in your subscription, reset at the end of every billing month and do not carry over. Top-up credits, the packs you buy separately, never expire. They roll forward until you have used them up, and your plan credits are always spent first so you never burn a purchased credit while an included one is sitting there.
Better than one. Every new account starts on Scale Pro free for 14 days, with the full 4,800 credits — the whole monthly allowance, not a prorated slice. That covers the expensive part of getting going: building your website, standing up the AI receptionist, and running enough AI estimates to see whether one is worth the hours it saves you. After 14 days you drop to Starter automatically. Nothing is cancelled and no card is needed — Starter is free forever, with 250 credits a month. There is nothing to remember to switch off. Two things do switch off, and it is fairer to say so now: the AI Receptionist stops unless you move to Growth, and GPS on the map stops unless you move to Scale Pro. Your jobs, estimates, invoices, schedule and crew clock-ins all carry on exactly as they were.
Then we quote you. Multi-location operators, franchises and full fleets get credits, rates and terms set against real usage rather than squeezed into a published tier, at the lowest rate we sell.
